Fanshawe: African Sanctus

The choir performs the vibrant and exciting African Sanctus in the fitting surrounding of the National Musicians' Church. This unorthodox setting of the the Latin Mass is harmonised with traditional African music recorded by the late David Fanshawe on his journeys up the River Nile and heard in counterpoint with the live chorus, soprano soloist and instrumental ensemble.

Romantic German Partsongs

Programme to include music by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Schumann, and others.

The recent centenaries of Mendelssohn and Schumann have sparked a revival in and expansion of interest in Romantic music, but still some of the choral music is relatively unknown. Here is an opportunity to discover some magnificent, out-of-the-ordinary repertoire.

'Thy Sweetest Song'

Programme to include:
Leighton Hymn to Matter
Rutter Hymn to the Creator of Light
Howells Even Such is Time

Dove Seek Him that Maketh the Seven Stars
Rubbra Lauda Sion

One of the reasons for the foundation of City Chamber Choir was to explore neglected twentieth century British choral music. Here the choir will be doing just that and revealing gems that you may not have heard. As the text to Rubbra's Lauda Sion says: 'then be the anthem lear and strong, thy fullest note, thy sweetest song'.
